Refund policy
This Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy explains how 4Play Essentials Pty handles returns, refunds, exchanges, replacements, cancellations, damaged goods, defective products and incorrect items.
Because 4Play Essentials sells intimate adult products, strict hygiene and safety rules apply. This policy is designed to protect customers, staff and future customers while respecting applicable South African consumer rights.
This policy applies to products purchased from www.4playessentials.co.za.
1. Contact us before returning anything
Please do not return any product without contacting us first.
To request a return, refund, replacement, exchange or cancellation, contact us at:
Email: sales@4playessentials.co.za
Please include:
- your order number;
- your full name;
- the product involved;
- the reason for the request;
- photos or videos where relevant;
- a clear description of the issue.
Items sent back without prior approval will be refused, delayed or returned to the customer at the customer’s cost where lawful.
2. General Returns
All products sold by 4Play Essentials are intimate products designed to come into contact with the body or body fluids.
For hygiene, safety and customer-trust reasons, we cannot accept returns, exchanges or refunds for products that have been:
- opened;
- unsealed;
- used;
- tested on the body;
- removed from protective packaging;
- damaged after delivery;
- missing seals, packaging, parts, accessories or manuals;
- exposed to hygiene risk;
- otherwise made unsuitable for resale.
This includes, but is not limited to, all adult toys, lubricants, enhancers, intimate accessories, bondage items, wearable items, strokers, masturbators, anal toys, dildos, vibrators and similar products, unless the product is defective, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise covered by law.
This is in line with the Consumer Protection Act Section 20(3) which states that goods may not be returned if for reasons of public health or otherwise, a public regulation prohibits the return of those goods to a supplier once they have been supplied to, or at the direction of, a consumer.
3. Change-of-mind returns
Because 4Play Essentials sells hygiene-sensitive intimate products, we do not offer voluntary change-of-mind returns, exchanges or refunds for intimate products.
This includes returns or exchanges because of buyer’s remorse, wrong choice, wrong size, wrong colour, unwanted gift, partner changed their mind, no longer wanted, personal preference, or similar reasons.
Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights you may have under applicable South African law. If a statutory cooling-off, cancellation or return right legally applies to a specific product or order, the product must be returned unopened, unused, undamaged, in its original factory-sealed packaging, with all seals intact and all accessories, manuals, packaging and free items included.
The customer must contact us within the applicable legal period before returning anything. Where the law allows, the customer is responsible for the direct cost of returning the product.
If the product has been opened, unsealed, used, tested, damaged, tampered with, removed from protective packaging, or hygiene-compromised in any way, the return may be refused unless the product is defective, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise covered by law.
Please read product descriptions, measurements, materials, charging details, battery details, compatibility information and product images carefully before ordering.
If you are unsure whether a product is suitable, please contact us before placing your order.
Approved statutory refunds will be handled in line with applicable law. Voluntary returns, if approved as a goodwill exception, may be handled by refund, store credit or exchange at our discretion and only where lawful.
4. Defective, damaged or incorrect products
If you receive a product that is defective, damaged on delivery, incorrect or missing parts, contact us as soon as possible.
For damaged parcels, incorrect items or missing items, please contact us preferably within 48 hours of delivery so that we can investigate quickly with the courier or warehouse.
For product faults that appear after delivery, contact us as soon as reasonably possible with details of the fault.
Please include:
- your order number;
- a clear description of the issue;
- photos of the product and packaging where relevant;
- photos of the courier bag, waybill or outer packaging where relevant;
- a short video showing the fault where reasonable and safe;
- confirmation of batteries, charging, cable use, setup steps or app connection where relevant.
Please do not send intimate images or videos; show only the product issue.
5. Defect assessment and troubleshooting
We may troubleshoot the issue with you before approving a repair, replacement, refund or return.
Depending on the product and issue, we may ask you to:
- test the product with new batteries;
- confirm battery size and polarity;
- charge the product fully;
- use the original charging cable;
- check that magnetic charging pins are correctly aligned;
- confirm that travel lock is disabled;
- confirm that the remote or app is correctly paired;
- place a suction product in water only where needed to demonstrate suction;
- provide a short video showing the fault;
- return the item for inspection where necessary and appropriate.
For hygiene reasons, we may assess some claims by photo or video evidence instead of asking for a used intimate product to be returned.
6. Statutory consumer rights
Nothing in this policy removes or limits rights you may have under applicable South African consumer law.
Where a product is defective, unsafe or does not meet applicable statutory quality standards, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund depending on the circumstances and the law.
If a product fault is caused by misuse, damage after delivery, incorrect charging, incorrect batteries, water exposure where the product is not waterproof, use with incompatible lubricants or cleaners, unauthorised modification, rough handling, normal wear and tear, or failure to follow instructions, the product may not qualify as a defective product return.
7. Manufacturer warranties
Some branded products may include a manufacturer warranty. Warranty length, process and coverage depend on the manufacturer and product.
Where a manufacturer warranty applies, we may assist with the claim process or direct you to the manufacturer’s process.
A manufacturer warranty may require proof of purchase, photos, videos, batch information, original packaging, inspection, testing or other reasonable information.
8. What is not usually treated as a defect
The following are generally not treated as product defects:
- normal wear and tear;
- damage caused by misuse, dropping, pulling, bending, tearing or rough handling;
- damage caused by incorrect charging or incorrect batteries;
- damage caused by using incompatible lubricants, cleaners, chargers or accessories;
- water damage where the product is not waterproof;
- damage caused by poor cleaning, poor storage or failure to follow instructions;
- personal preference about vibration strength, sound, size, firmness, shape, texture, colour or fit where the product matches the description;
- slight colour or measurement differences caused by screen settings or manufacturing tolerances;
- supplier packaging changes;
- discomfort caused by choosing an unsuitable size, shape or product type;
- app, Bluetooth, remote or device-compatibility issues caused by phone settings, operating-system updates, signal issues or third-party app changes, unless the product itself is defective.
9. Returns inspection
Where a product is returned to us, we may inspect it before approving the outcome.
Inspection may include checking:
- whether the product is the item supplied by us;
- whether the product is unopened, sealed and unused;
- whether accessories, packaging and manuals are included;
- whether the fault described can be confirmed;
- whether there are signs of misuse, damage, tampering or hygiene risk.
Where an intimate product has been opened, used or hygiene-compromised, we will safely dispose of it and will not resell it.
10. Refund, replacement or repair options
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, approved outcomes may include:
- replacement with the same product;
- replacement with a similar product of equal value, if agreed;
- repair where available and appropriate;
- refund to the original payment method where possible;
- store credit where agreed or where offered as a goodwill solution.
If the original product is out of stock, we may offer a suitable alternative, wait for restock where practical, issue a refund where required, or offer store credit where agreed.
Store credit is not cash and cannot be withdrawn unless required by law.
11. Cancellations before dispatch
If you want to cancel an order before dispatch, contact us as soon as possible.
If the order has not yet been packed, booked with a courier, specially ordered, customised or processed for fulfilment, we will usually cancel it without courier charges.
If the order has already been packed, booked with a courier, specially ordered or processed for fulfilment, reasonable costs already incurred may be deducted where lawful.
12. Cancellations after dispatch
If an order has already been handed to a courier, booked for courier collection, dispatched, refused on delivery, not collected from a locker, returned due to incorrect details, or returned because the customer was unavailable, you will be responsible for reasonable courier, return, re-delivery and administration costs (up to 10% of order value).
If the parcel is returned to us unopened and the products remain sealed, we will inspect the parcel and advise on refund, store credit or re-delivery options.
If the parcel or products are opened, damaged, used, unsealed or hygiene-compromised, the return may be refused.
13. Failed delivery, incorrect details and uncollected parcels
You are responsible for providing correct delivery details and being available to receive or collect your parcel.
If a parcel is delayed, returned or requires a new booking because of incorrect contact details, incorrect delivery address, failed delivery attempts, refusal of delivery, missed courier calls, uncollected locker parcels or customer unavailability, additional courier and re-delivery costs may be charged where lawful.
We may require payment of re-delivery costs before resending the parcel.
14. Refund method and timing
Approved refunds are usually processed to the original payment method where possible.
If the original payment method is unavailable, expired, reversed, disputed or unsuitable, we may request banking details or offer another lawful refund method.
Refunds may take several working days (usually 1 to 10 business days) to reflect depending on the payment provider and bank.
For statutory refunds, we will not charge penalties that are not permitted by law.
For voluntary or non-statutory cancellations, goodwill refunds or customer-caused return situations, reasonable costs already incurred may be deducted where lawful.
15. Return shipping costs
For approved returns, you are responsible for the direct return shipping cost.
For confirmed defective, damaged or incorrect products covered by applicable law, we will handle return, replacement, repair or refund arrangements in line with the law.
For returns caused by incorrect customer details, failed delivery, missed collection, refused delivery, customer unavailability or uncollected parcels, the customer may be responsible for courier, return and re-delivery costs where lawful.
16. Rejected returns
A return may be rejected if:
- the product was opened or unsealed;
- the product was used or hygiene-compromised;
- the product was damaged after delivery;
- parts, packaging, seals, manuals or accessories are missing;
- the item is not the item supplied by us;
- the fault cannot be verified after reasonable assessment;
- the damage appears to have been caused by misuse, incorrect charging, incorrect batteries, incompatible products or failure to follow instructions;
- the claim is fraudulent, abusive or unsupported;
- the item was returned without approval;
- the request falls outside this policy and applicable legal requirements.
If a returned item is rejected, we may ask you to pay for re-delivery if you want the item sent back to you, where it is safe and lawful to do so.
17. Sale items, clearance items and free gifts
Sale and clearance items are covered by the same statutory rights that apply to other products.
However, if a product is sold with a clearly disclosed defect, packaging damage or special condition, that disclosed issue will not be treated as a defect later.
Free gifts, promotional items and samples are subject to availability and cannot be exchanged for cash. If a free gift is defective or unavailable, we will not replace it.
18. Bundles and multi-item orders
If a returned item formed part of a bundle, promotion, discount, free-gift threshold or multi-buy offer, the refund or replacement may be adjusted to reflect the actual amount paid for the returned item and the effect of the promotion.
If returning an item causes the order to fall below a free-delivery, discount or free-gift threshold, the refund may be adjusted where lawful to account for the benefit received.
